Class 20(iv) The reinforcements a of pre-stressed concrete members are provided with shelllike anchorage members e which are embedded in the concrete and assist in binding the reinforcements to the concrete. The transference of the pre-stress to the setting concrete may be expedited by the use of the members e which may be secured, in any desired numbers, along the reinforcements. The members e may be of flattened conical form, Figs. 3, 4, to receive one or more wires a which are secured to the member by a wedge or wedges, i. A flange j increases the bond with the concrete. The members e may be formed so that it is unnecessary to thread the wires a through them. In this case, the members are open-sided, i.e. of I- or C-section, the wedges engaging the upper and lower flanges of the I or C member and the wire which is between them. The wedges may be serrated to increase the grip. A number of members e may be interconnected to form a rigid grid which is disposed transversely in the concrete member. A number of concrete members may be made in one tensioning apparatus, the members being separated subsequently by cutting the wires.
