Abstract

293,520. Cuthbertson, R. W. May 12, 1927. Mine props. - The roofs of mines are supported by T- or channel-section bars reinforced by a wire rope or wire ropes anchored at the ends of the bars. The bars are supported at the ends by wooden props or adjustable tubular props E, as described in Specification 296,290. Figs. 4 and 6 show a T-section bar reinforced by two wire ropes B which pass through tapered holes c in blocks C disposed at the ends of the bar, the wires being secured in the holes by fillings of white metal or other suitable alloy. Fig 9 shows a channel-section bar A<1> similarly reinforced by a single wire rope. The wire reinforcement, when double, may be in the form of a single rope passing by a loop through a block D, Fig, 15, at one end of the bar and secured by its two ends to a block C at the other end of the bar.
