Abstract
296,290. Cuthbertson, R. W. Feb. 8, 1928. Divided on 293,520. Mine props.- Relates to pit - props such as are described in Specification 140,952, formed of openended metal tubing having a longitudinal slot. According to the invention, the slot extends not more than half way up the tube from the bottom or near the bottom. Fig. 1 shows a prop E in which a slot E<1> extending nearly half way up the tube from the bottom is graduated to show the depth to which the prop when in use. has sunk in the ground. To reduce the diameter of the bottom opening in the tube, an apertured shoe F, shown separately in Fig. 3, may be fitted. A cap similar to the part F may also be fitted on the top end of the prop if it is desired to increase the external diameter when the tube engages between the flanges of a channel girder. When the tubular prop is to be used to support a T-girder, the upper end of the tube is slotted to receive the flange of the girder.
