Abstract

310,729. Phillips, C. W., and Williamson, H. Aug. 9, 1928. Mine props.-A pit prop of the type having a plunger 4 resting on debris in a cylinder 2 supported by the lower part of the prop has lateral openings 9 in the cylinder through which passes a chain or the like 10 which, on being pulled, removes part of the debris from the cylinder and allows the prop to collapse. The last links of the chain are shaped to engage the outside surfaces of the lateral apertures, so that continued pulling on the chain will remove the prop. The piston has a pin-and-slot connection with the cylinder and the cylinder may be filled through a hollow in the piston or through an aperture 8<b> in the cylinder wall which is subsequently closed by the piston. The lower supporting prop member may be a section bar or a tube.
