Abstract

Mine props.-A telescopic prop has the sliding member formed of non- tapered parallel plain bars or sectionbars joined together at their upper ends and adapted to be pressed by means of wedge and cam clamping means against the web of a sectionbar or a cross web inserted in a tubular member. In Fig. 1, the channelsection bars 1 are shown pressed against the web of the H-section bar 3 by means of a wedge 9 and cam 8 acting on cross shafts 5, 5<a>, carried by cross bars 4, these bars having recesses to receive the flanges of the main section-bar and to allow lateral movement of the cross bars. The channel section-bars may be replaced by plain parallel bars and the lower main section-bar may be replaced by a tube fitted with a central web portion 17, Fig. 6, retained in the tube by bolts 18, an angle-bar 25 preventing the rotation of the clamping bars. The head of the prop is shaped to receive a wooden wedge bar 10 and a top bearing bar 11, Fig. 1, or may be shaped to form a taper seat for a wedge.
