[Class 20 (ii).] The members of a shoring frame for use in mines are rendered yieldable by means of connecting members which permit relative movement of the frame members and which comprise a pair of wedge members which coact with an interposed steel spring bent in C-shape. According to one construction, a shoring frame-leg b, Fig. 1, is yieidably connected with a prop a and a caprail k by a prop-shoe c and a cap-joint member l, respectively. The prop-shoe is formed with a hook c<3> by which it is suspended from the prop a and, as shown in section in Fig. 4, has two claws c<1> which are adapted to embrace the flanges of the leg b. In the space enclosed between the prop-shoe and the leg b are disposed a wedge d, a nose-wedge e and a steel C-shaped spring g. The wedge d, which tapers towards its lower end, is connected to the leg b by a hook h and has a claw i which engages with the prop a. The nose-wedge e is secured to the propshoe and is adapted to prevent the longitudinal displacement of the steel spring. In operation, when the frame is subjected to heavy pressure, the leg b slides relatively to the prop a and carries with it the wedge d which compresses the spring g. The construction of the cap-joint member l is substantially the same as that of the prop-shoe. In action, the member l slides, with lateral movement of the leg b, towards the centre of the gallery, the spring insert being compressed by the wedge m. A complete frame comprising foot- and base-members and two side uprights may be constructed with joint members such as that shown at l between the contiguous ends of the frame parts.
