483,917. Mine - roof supports. FISHER, 0., and SMITHSON, H. F. Oct. 27, 1936, No. 29143. [Class 20 (ii)] A mine-roof support comprises an upper bearing beam a with I-section depending portions b which are adapted to slide under pressure between stilt-portions d and parallelly disposed T-bars h. The stilt and T-bars are clamped together at their upper ends by clamping-plates f and bolts g, one of the plates of each pair being provided with a lip k to engage the upper end of the stilt-bar by which it is supported, while the other plate of each pair engages the upper end of the cut-away web of the T-bar. Wooden packing or a wedge e is used between the T-section bar band stilt-bar d on each side. The stilt-bars d mav be connected by a lower cross-bar c, or may be fixed to independent base-plates. Specification 460,844 is referred to.
