Abstract
759,557. Mine roof supports. GERLACH, H. May 25, 1954, No. 15415/54. Class 20(2). A pit prop or arch support 1 is fitted into and clamped by a member 2 which is of flanged channel - shaped cross - section wherein portions of the lateral flanges 6.have been displaced to provide lugs or bearings 7 to receive tightening means such as a wedge 8. As shown, two sets of lugs 7, 71 are provided, and the member 2 is made by welding together two opposed angle irons 5 to the cheeks of a U-section iron 3. The lugs 7, 7<SP>1</SP> are formed by cutting and then bending back portions of the lateral flanges 6. The holes in the lugs are formed by stamping, and stamped-out wedges 8, 8<SP>1</SP> having sharpened and hardened edges are driven through the holes to clamp the prop &c. 1. An additional member 10 of U-section iron is fitted within the member 2, and the lower ends of both members are mounted in a baseplate 12 between shoulders 11.
