Abstract

779,463. Chocks for mines. PROGRES CHARBONNIER PROCHAR SOC. COOPERATIVE. April 26, 1955 [April 30, 1954, Sept. 11, 1954], No. 11978/55. Class 20(2) A collapsible roof-supporting chock comprises superposed wedges provided with either friction-type or hydraulic braking means for braking their relative sliding movement under pressure of the roof. The friction-type braking means comprises a bar attached to one of the wedges and clamped in a lock coacting with the other wedge. In one form, Fig. 1, the bar 4 extends obliquely through slots in the wedges 1, 2 and is pivoted at 9 to one wedge, the lock 5 tightened by a wedge 6, bearing against the other wedge. The bar may be laminated and is either uniform or tapered. In a modification the bar is fixed at both ends to the wedge 2, parallel to the sliding surface, and passes through a lock secured to the wedge 1; the lock may be of the friction type 5, or it may be actuated by a hydraulic device, Fig. 8, comprising a cylinder 13, piston 14, and brake .shoe 15 which clamps the bar 16 against the base 18 of the cylinder. In a further modification, Fig. 10, the hydraulic device itself constitutes the braking means and comprises a cylinder 13 mounted in the wedge 1, a piston 14, and a piston rod 20 attached to the lower wedge by a pivot 17 either at the lower or upper part of the wedge. Sliding girders 23 are provided on the upper face of the wedge 1. Girders 23 are slidable in lugs On the wedge 1.
