Abstract

1401555 Chain stoppers HOWALDTSWERKE-DEUTSCHE WERFT AG 13 March 1973 [18 March 1972] 11989/73 Heading B8B A stopper for an anchor chain 15 comprises a bifurcated wedge shaped stopper shoe 1 secured to bearers 2 which are slidable on abutments 4, 5 so that the shoe 1 is slidable substantially horizontally under a link of the anchor chain passing through a hawse pipe 3. The chain is held against transverse movement as the shoe 1 is applied by a stop arm 12 which is pivoted by an arm movable with the bearers 2 into the horizontal position shown to engage the chain, the arm 12 being returned to its inoperative vertical position by a counterweighted part 11 of the arm, once the bearers 2 are withdrawn. The shoe carrying bearers 2, which are supported on further bearings 7, are movable by either an hydraulic ram 8, a threaded spindle or by hand. The stopper when in the applied position covers and seals the upper end of the hawse pipe 3.
