970,671. Track correction apparatus. RAILWAY MAINTENANCE CORPORATION. Jan. 18, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No. 1854/62. Heading B7N. A machine for determining the position of low points on a railway track comprises a vehicle 15 coupled to a second vehicle 21, a beam 20 pivotally attached at one end to vehicle 15, which extends parallel to the track and is supported at its other end by vehicle 21 and a cable 22 which is attached by means of a screwed bolt 81 to the free end of the beam and extends over a pulley mounted on a post 37 attached to vehicle 15 to a spring-loaded indicating drum 90. When wheel 26 of vehicle 15 approaches a low point on the track, the clockwise movement of post 37 and anticlockwise movement of beam 20 reduces the distance between the bolt 81 and the pulley and the indicating drum revolves to indicate the low point. The indicator reading may be recorded or used, as shown, to control track lifting and packing apparatus 17, 18 and 19 mounted on vehicle 15. Two beams 20 may be used, each beam extending parallel to one of the rails R.
