Abstract
1515353 Measuring the pass between rollers ACHENBACH BUSCHHUTTEN GmbH 15 Aug 1975 [17 Aug 1974] 34146/75 Heading G1M [Also in Division B3] A four tier roller stand comprises uprights 1a, Fig. 1 and a pair of working rollers 3, 4 which are located in chocks 5, 6 and backed up by rollers 7, 8 in chocks 9, 10. A device 11 fitted on either side of the rollers is used to measure the distance between the roller chocks 9, 10 when the rollers are set up and this distance is subsequently monitored and adjusted by a measuring unit 16 operating a control circuit and hydraulic means (not described). Each device 11, Figs. 2 and 3 comprises a bolt 14 which may be extended to engage or co-operate with a sensor 42 of a measuring unit 16 by means of a double acting piston 19 connected to the bolt 14 by a bridge 22 adjustably slidable on a reduced end 23 having a shoulder 28. The length of the stroke of the piston rod 26 is limited by the upper back chock 9 which forms a stop and two coaxial clamping cylinders 36 having gripping legs 39 hold the bolt 14 securely in its measuring position but allow it to be moved when necessary. After the gauge bolt has been extended into the measuring position 14' in which it is held by the clamps 36, the piston 19 is immediately relieved and hydraulically maintained in a floating position but allowed to move downwardly when chocks 9 and 10 approach one another. At the same time the bridge 22 makes a lost motion on the reduced bolt end 23.
