Abstract

1,136,354. Bricklayer's gauge. G. B. AVERILL and R. MANSELL. 10 April, 1967 [5 Feb., 1966], No. 5164/66. Heading E1S. A bricklayer's gauge for the corner of a brick or block wall comprises an aluminium alloy angle member 1 supported by two telescopic angle-sectioned legs near its top, and at its base either by a pin 16 (as shown) passing into a hole in the foundations or by an adjustable bracket 30 (Fig. 4, not shown), which clamps the base to the wall. U-shaped metal slide blocks 17 pick up the ends of the lines 23 via holes drilled from the end of one leg to a point on the base (Fig. 2, not shown), the end of the line being passed around a thumbscrew 18 which tightens the line and also fixes the block in position by engaging the base of a channel 25 in the outer face of one limb 3 of the gauge. The outer end of each limb 3 is chamfered, as is the receiving leg of the slide block 17. Bolts passing through holes, e.g. 5 in the gauge I are countersunk so that the angle of the gauge is smooth over the length of the gauge, so that the wall corner may be formed therein.
