Abstract

1291988 Corner gauges for buildings G B AVERILL and R MANSELL 3 Dec 1969 58963/69 Heading G1F A corner gauge for use in constructing buildings comprises a rigid elongated angle section body 1 providing two internally facing surfaces 2 at right angles to each other, a metal dowel pin 16 for location in a recess in the building foundations and legs 6 for locating the body in a vertical position to define a corner to be built, and at least one block 17 slidable on the body 1 and having a concave rear face from which a pin 40 projects to serve as an attachment point for a line 23. Preferably two blocks 17 are provided, one for each limb of the body 1, each having an angled recess engaging with the side edge of the body 1 but not projecting beyond the respective face 2, and a thumbscrew 18 engaging a groove 25 in the body 1 to enable the block to be clamped in an adjusted position. The end of the block remote from the thumbscrew 18 is provided with a recess for the line 23 which passes through an aperture in the block and across the rear face to the pin 40. The legs 6 are adjustable in length and are each provided with a foot 10 which may be apertured as at 12 to receive a peg, for anchoring it to the ground. The dowel pin 16 is carried by an angle bracket 13 which is longitudinally adjustable relative to the body 1 to enable standard markings on the body 1 to be set at a desired height. For use above ground the bracket 13 may be replaced by a clamp secured to the brickwork and the legs 6 may be fixed to scaffolding. Spirit levels (not shown) are set into exterior faces of the limbs of the angle section body 1 to enable the body to be set truly vertical.
