Abstract

1357679 Hydraulic presses AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 29 Nov 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 55221/72 Heading B5F [Also in Division G1] A biaxial compression testing machine for applying compressive loads to a test piece, e.g. of concrete, comprises two independentlymounted assemblies 1, 2 adapted to apply loads at right angles to one another, each assembly including an hydraulically-actuated piston 16 carrying a vertical plate 21, the test piece being compressed between the plate 21 and an opposing vertical back plate 15, the piston 16 and plates 21, 15 of each assembly being mounted on a frame of four bars 3, the frame being supported on guide rails (7) such that each assembly is freely displaceable in a direction parallel to the direction of its applied load. Using such a machine the applied forces are automatically centred at all stages of deformation of the test piece. Each guide rail (7) is supported on three adjustable feet so that it can be accurately positioned in a horizontal plane. The plate 21 is centred by four arms (20), each arm being adjustable in length and being attached to a sleeve 19 slidably mounted on a respective one of the bars 3. The applied forces are measured using load sensors 22.
