Abstract

1466741 Testing timber ENWE OY 26 March 1974 [28 March 1973] 13329/74 Heading G1S Sawn lengths 1 of timber are passed between lower rollers on a stationary frame 5 and rollers 2 mounted on a frame 4 vertically movable by means of a slidable member 6 and a hydraulic cylinder 7. Bending rollers or rails 3 on arms 13 can be set so that a desired flexure in opposite directions at two points intermediate the supporting rollers 2 is obtained in the timber, and electrical strain gauges 11 indicate on a display 14 the forces applied at certain instants of time when an impulse disc 16 gives impulses to a gauge 15. The beginnings and ends of the sawn lengths are indicated by light cells 17, 18, and the mean of the readings from the gauges 11 if it surpasses a minimum value is used to operate a device 19 which sprays at the measuring points a colour stain indicating the specific strength of the length tested.
