Abstract

1350033 Presses AUTOMATED BUILDING COMPONENTS Inc 21 June 1972 [20 Oct 1971] 29144/72 Headings B5F and B4C A press for embedding nail plates into joints of wooden members J comprises an upper platen 18 on a head 14, a lower platen 16 on a base 12, a cylinder 40 at each end of the head to move the head against the base and a bar 66 to transfer the force applied by a cylinder to the head at one end of the press to the other end if there is a tendency for the upper platen to come out of parallelism with the lower platen. Bell-cranks 50a, 50b pivotally mounted at each end of the base are each pivotally connected to a pair of arms 56 pivotally connected to the head. The bar comprising rigid steel tubing 66 interconnects the bell-cranks to ensure that they pivot in synchronism and thus maintain the ends of the head level. The head carries guide bars 38 movable in guides 32 in the base. The press is mounted on wheels 24, 26 movable along tracks with a jig table extending between the platen. Rollers 68 on the base are resiliently urged into engagement with the jig table.
