Abstract

987,663. Fly presses. MASCHINENFABRIK HASENCLEVER A.G. Dec. 16, 1963 [Feb. 18, 1963], No. 49517/63. Heading B5F. In a fly press, having a ram 4 reciprocated by a flywheel 2 and a screw 1, the ram has an extension 9 carrying a braking device which co-operates with the flywheel, and is reciprocated therewith. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the braking device comprises a brake shoe 13, 14 operated by a piston and cylinder device 10 - 13 mounted upon extension 9, the shoe co-operating with an annular region of the flywheel strengthened by a flange 16. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, the piston and cylinder device is mounted upon a member 20, having abutment 21, 22 which is slidable upon extension 9, the downwardly extended flange of flywheel being engaged between the shoe 13, 14 and the abutment 21, 22. The sliding member may be vertically mounted, a horizontal flange 26 of the flywheel being engaged between the abutment and the shoe as in Fig. 3 (not shown). A second extension 18 symmetrically placed with extension 9 about the longitudinal axis of the screw and having a similar braking device may also be used. In a further embodi- .ment (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) two extensions 9, 18 carry a platform on which are pivotally mounted a pair of brake shoes adapted to bear on the inside of a flange on the flywheel by a common piston and cylinder mechanism acting on their free ends.
