Abstract

1,087,152. Baling presses. W. N. POWELL, A. F. POWELL, and H. ANDERTON. April 10, 1964 [Jan. 12, 1963], No. 1490/63. Heading B5F. In a press for baling paper, cardboard or fibrous material, and comprising a retainer 12 extending along the edge of the inlet to a compression chamber 4, material being moved towards the chamber 4 by a ram (not shown) can engage an inclined portion 16 of the retainer and move it outwardly against the action of springs 28, the retainer being arranged so that the ram moves past it without directly contacting it. The retainer 12 is carried by arms 22 pivoted at 24. Retention of the compressed material in the chamber 4 is assisted by providing stepped portions 42, 44 in the bottom and sides of the chamber 6, and by providing side and top members 46, 52 of ratchet profile.
