A press for expressing liquid from wet cardboard 11 or paperboard &c. has platens 1 and 6, each with passageways 3 extending from the working face of the press to channels 4 which are parallel and are drained with the aid of suction, e.g. from a common suction conduit. The cardboard 11 may be conveyed by a felt 9, 10, which is stationary during pressing.
