Abstract
974,948. Roll stands. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. Feb. 7, 1962 [Feb. 10, 1961], No. 4711/62. Heading B3M. In a roll stand having a stationary and a movable standard, two cross-beams are provided to connect the top ends of the two standards and are hydraulically locked and released. The beams are situated in slots 10 in the standards 2 and 3, inclined straps 14 and 15 bridging the slots. To release each cross-beam 11 an hydraulic cylinder 16 is actuated to push two wedges 18 and 19 clear of the straps 14 and 15. Wedge 18, having a steeper inclination, is released first and abuts a stop 20, the wedge 19 then being moved to the right to engage a pin 26 in a mouth 28. The pin joins straps 25 connected to a lever 22 pivoted to the beam 11 such that further motion of the wedge causes the lever to rotate and lift the beam by the reaction of a roller 23 on the standard 3. The position shown in Fig. 6 is then reached with the slots 12 clear of the bolts 13, and movement of the standard 3 to the slotted position shown is possible, another slot 12 thus registering with the bolt 13. Bolts 5 (Fig. 2) connecting the standards to the base 1 are releasable hydraulically.
