Abstract

1,215,759. Chocks. K. J. PENTINGA. 25 Oct., 1968 [27 Oct., 1967], No. 50845/68. Heading F2E. In a chock a base-plate 11 is provided with anchoring ridges 2, 12 beneath the base-plate and upright plates 3, provided at two of the corners of the base-plate, are inclined towards each other at an angle of 25 degrees to merge with a supporting plate 6 inclined at an angle of 80 degrees to the base-plate substantially mid-way between the ends of the base-plate. The chock may be used in two positions; the first position where the chock is placed with the plates 3 under a wheel of a vehicle so that during transportation of the vehicle a retarding or accelerating force of the transported vehicle is absorbed on the top edges 4 and together with part of the vehicle's own weight a component of such a force presses the ridges 2 and 12 firmly into the platform of the supporting surface; a second position wherein the chock is placed at the side of the wheel so that the supporting plate 6 abuts the side of the wheel and the vehicle's own weight presses the ridges into the supporting surface to keep the chock firm. The ridges 2 provided beneath the base-plate and beneath the surfaces 4 and 6 are closer together than the ridges 12 beneath the remainder of the base-plate. Additional ridges 13 are provided at right angles to the ridges 2, 12 and are shorter in length to provide additional gripping between the base-plate and the supporting surface.
