Abstract
1367358 Chain stoppers DREXEL EQUIPMENT (UK) Ltd 8 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 37591/71 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] A chain stopper in the form of a collapsible pawl is pivotable by means of a handle 7 or a ram, into and out of engagement either with the limbs of a chain moving linearly or round a pulley, or with teeth formed on a flange of the chain pulley, and comprises two pawl parts 8 and 9 pivotable relative to each other by means of an hydraulic ram 27 to facilitate releasing the pawl from the chain when the pawl is compressed along the axis 11 by the chain. The parts 8, 9 are articulated to each other by lateral links 17 and 18 mounted on pins 19, 20 received in elongated slots in the parts 8 and 9. The two links 17, 18 are pivoted together and to a piston- rod 25 of the ram 27 by a pin 23, whereby upward movement of the rod 25 causes the two parts 8 and 9 to pivot relatively about point 31 and once the pin 23 moves overcentre relative to the line between pins 19, 20, the pawl collapses due to compression from the chain, which is then released. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown), the pawl is pivoted between side plates which support a runner guiding a chain between a winch and an anchor, the plates being pivotally mounted and having a projection associated with a load cell for indicating chain tension.
