Abstract

912,987. Rock bolts. EMERY, C. L. May 15, 1961 [Feb. 17, 1960], No. 5566/60. Class 45. A rock bolt has a round stem 3, an expandible anchor 6 and a wedging unit (9, 20 and 14). The stem 3 is tensioned by a hydraulic jack 18 having jaws 16 so that the wedge 5 expands the anchor 6 (grooves 23 facilitating this by aiding deformation). When the jack jaws 16 release, the jaws 14 hold the stem 3 under tension and hence the anchor 6 in place. The plate 9 and jaw holder 20 may be separate (9A and 20A, Fig. 4, not shown) also the stem 3 may be a cable (3A, Fig. 12, not shown).
