Abstract

400,875. Mine-roof supports. RICHARDS, F., 14, Brynheulog Street, Port Talbot, Glamorgan. May 24, 1933, No. 15067. [Class 20 (ii).] A mine arch is composed of a plurality of rolled-metal sections joined by means which permit limited pivotal movement in the plane of the arch and prevent lateral movement, while adapted to withstand a tension between the section. In one form, Fig. 1, the ends of the sections 20 are of arcuate formation and roll on each other, and are joined by side straps 22 which prevent lateral movement and withstand tension between the ends. In this form, the end surfaces may have interengaging portions. The ends of the sections may be rounded and overlap each other laterally, a central bolt connecting the overlapping parts together ; or the ends of the sections may have flanged ball seatings 31, Fig. 6, bolted together at 32 and adapted to receive a ball 30 or a resilient wedge 33 of wood between them. In another form the ends are connected by side straps which are adapted to buckle under pressure, and a resilient wedge may be used between the ends of the sections.
