Abstract
726,000. Mine-roof supports. USINES ET ACIERIES L. GIOT SOC. ANON. April 16, 1953 [May 31, 1952], No. 10422/53. Class 20 (2). A mine roof lagging iron 1 has at one end a curved beak 3, and at the other end a fork 2 into which a beak 3 of an adjacent lagging iron is inserted. A pivot pin 6 is inserted through aligned holes 4, 5 in the adjacent lagging irons and the curved beak 3 bears against a similarly curved face of a wedge 8 driven transversely into a slot 7 in the fork 2, which slot extends substantially along the axis of the lagging iron. The wedge 8 is symmetrical about its longitudinal axis, and the face 9 of the slot 7 is formed with two symmetrically inclined parts, so that the wedge may be introduced into the slot from either side. To permit relative lateral orientation of adjacent lagging irons, lateral play is provided between the beak 3 and prongs of the fork 2, the bore 5 is flared outwardly at 11, and the abutment face 9 for the wedge 8 in the slot 7 may be formed on a movable piece 12, Fig. 6, or the face 9 may be of convex curvature, Fig. 7 (not shown).
