Abstract

722,202. Mine-roof support bars. BRAND, J., and RITCHIE, C. April 21, 1952 [Nov. 13, 1951], No. 9983/52. Class 20 (2). [Also in Group XXII] Mine-roof support bars a, b of similar form, are made of light metal and are connected together by means of an end projection d engaging in a forked end c and secured by a pin e and cross wedge f, the end portions d, c being also of light metal and integral respectively with the bars a, b, the projection d being shaped from a solid portion by machining and the forked end c being formed by cutting and machining the end of the bar after being thickened by upsetting. The cross wedge f passes through slots g in the forked end c and bears against the inclined end face i of the projection d. Two pairs of slots g, symmetrically arranged, are prevented to enable the bar b to be used in an inverted position. The contacting surfaces of the wedge f and the pin e may be zinc coated and the contact surfaces of the bars a, b may be protected by sheet steel.
