Abstract
819,426. Mine roof supporting bars. GERLACH, K., and GERLACH, H. Jan. 19, 1956 [Jan. 24, 1955], No. 1810/56. Class 20(2) In a fork and tongue connection 1, 2 between the ends of mine roof bars A. B, in which the tongue 2 is forced by a wedge 5 in apertures in the pads against an abutment member 3 in order to raise the new bar B into position, the abutmen 3 is pivoted by pins 4 in the fork 1 of the already installed bar A and has flanges 12 to support the bar B which is being installed. The wedge 5 which is adapted to be driven through apertures in the fork and tongue, acts in the longitudinal direction of the bars forcing the tongue 2 against the element 3 relative movement of which is prevented by projections 10. The member 3 may be turned on its pins 4 toprovide an abutment for the tongue 2 when the bar A is used when turned through 180 degrees about its axis. The wedge which also acts as a pivot pin for the bars is held captive in one limb of the fork by ribs and grooves 9.
