Abstract

301,634. Bullough, E. Nov. 17, 1927. Mine props.-Telescopic pit props are formed of tubular parts, the upper 1 having a piston 6 at its lower end to slide in the lower member 2 and to rest normally on removable waste material 7 in the lower member. A guiding collar 8 is secured to the upper end of the lower member and castings 3, 4 are also secured to the ends of the lower and upper members, respectively. The piston is provided with a conical opening covered by a plate 10 formed in segments or having openings 11 for the escape of the material during settling of the prop, and openings may be provided in the tube 2 or in the foot-rest 3 also to allow of escape of the material. To provide for fine adjustment of the prop, a wire raker 17 leads frrm the opening 15 into the material, whereby small amounts of debris can be extracted.
