Abstract
317,116. Carson, N. B. May 9, 1928. Reinforced-concrete beams and columns.- Columns, beams, and other structures of the kind comprising a central metallic core 1 and bars 4 spaced therefrom, have the bars and stirrups formed before erection into a unit which is afterwards secured to the core; or the unit may consist of stirrups and positioning bars 23, the main bars 4 being added during erection. As applied to columns, the units may be secured to the web of a central joist 1, Fig. 9, by plates and bolts, and by the bent ends 20 of the stirrups; or by tongues 38, Fig. 14, bent up from the stirrups; or the apices of triangular stirrups may project through holes in the web and be locked thereto. Similar constructions are used for beams, the bars 4 being in the lower zone. The stirrups and bars may be made up in flat form, Fig. 32, to be wrapped around a joist 60, Fig. 25.
