584,194. Walls etc.; reinforced concrete. WHITSON, R. A. Oct. 17, 1944, No. 20058. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A reinforced concrete construction incorporates pairs of parallel members forming part of a main framework with rods or wires stretched under tension between the members of each pair so as to form two networks in parallel planes between which is a concrete filling. The framework may be formed by reinforced concrete posts 1 and beams 2, rods or wires 3, 4 being tensioned as by a ratchet strainer 5 between them to form two networks connected by cross ties and with expanded metal mesh 7 and a cement or other rendering or tiling applied to at least one of the faces. Concrete is poured into the gap between the networks or concrete blocks are held between them. According to the Provisional Specification, the main framework sections may consist of steel or timber and be connected by a single network ; the structure may be adapted for floors or roofs, retaining walls or barges.
