Abstract

309,218. Carson, N. B. Jan. 5, 1928. Reinforced-concrete beams -Concrete beams of the type reinforced by a rolled or built-up joist and bars spaced therefrom, are provided with stirrups which are bolted to the joist and are preformed to hold the bars in predetermined position. The stirrups may be made of strip iron or rods. Figs. 2 and 3 show a stirrup 5 with holes 7 for the bolts 8; other stirrups 12, Fig. 4, are placed alternately inverted to hold the bars 10, 11, or may be used alone and be then bolted to the joist flange. The ends of the stirrups 5 may be bent outwards instead of inwards. Fig. 9 shows a modification of the stirrup which has split ends 25, 26 bent around the bars in opposite directions. When made of rods, the stirrups are secured to the joist and bars by eyebolts or hook-bolts.
