Abstract
In a method of making a bent girder having lateral flanges, one of which is in tension and embedded in concrete, and the other in compression, a rigid metal structure is applied to the compression flange 1 to prevent buckling thereof. The structure comprises angle irons 3, 4 and transverse channel-section irons 5, which are welded to the iron 3 and bolted to the iron 4. Each iron 5 has a plurality of bolt holes 7 to allow for different flange widths. Lubricant 8 may be provided between the irons 3, 4 and the flange edges to allow for relative sliding movement therebetween during bending, or they may be rigidly clamped to the flange to prevent sliding. A number of the structures are secured together end-to-end when bending long girders.
