Abstract
943,852. Cast concrete floors; metal beams. P. KRAJCINOVIC. July 10, 1961 [July 15, 1960(2)], No. 24912/61. Headings E1K and E1V. A load bearing beam comprises a trough made of steel plate and having longitudinal edge flanges, steel concrete connectors secured to the trough, and means for structurally stiffening the trough against distortion comprising a structure connecting the trough sides while leaving the top of the trough sufficiently open to enable concrete to be introduced into the trough. In Fig. 1 a flanged trough 4, stiffened by welded on battens 6 and plates 10, 11, is provided with U- or loop-shaped connectors 12, 13 welded to the trough walls 5 to bond with concrete cast in the trough above the plate 10. Tubes 15 welded to spacers 16 which in turn are welded to the trough receive pre-stressing cables 14, which are tensioned prior to the introduction of concrete into the trough. Upward convex curvature is thereby given to the trough, which curvature may be increased by an extensible strut applied under pressure between abutments at the top of the trough before the concrete is poured and removed when the concrete has set so that the resilience of the trough applies pre-compression to the concrete therein. In a floor construction the reinforced concrete slab 17, Fig. 2, is cast after the in-situ pouring and setting of the concrete in the troughs 4. The projecting portions of the connectors 12, 13 key the concrete 17 to the troughs. The troughs may be stiffened by a steel lacing or mesh bridging their top flanges. In further modifications, Figs. 7, 8 and 9 (not shown) the trough members are connected by spaced webs to a lower member in the form of a trough or box section.
