Abstract
786,204. Concrete beams for floors and roofs. RIDGEON, H. D. R. Jan. 27, 1956 [Nov. 1, 1954], No. 31504/54. Class 20(4) The reinforcement for a concrete beam of inverted T-section for use in flooring, ceiling, or roof, constructions of the Kind embodying slabs which are supported by, and extend between, parallel beams, a concrete filling being applied in the spaces betweem the slabs, comprises central and outer members 2, 5 respectively which are connected at intervals by transverse bars 6 and embedded in a concrete bottom portion 1, and an upper longitudinal member 4 which is connected to the central member 2 by an undulating member 3 and is linked at intervals to the outer members 5 by stirrups 8. The undulating member 5 is welded to the members 2, 4, the members 6 and 8 being secured respectively to the members 2, 5 and 4, 5 by wire bindings 7, 9 to provide shear reinforcement. The concrete portion 1 has ledges 1a for supporting floor slabs 10. If desired the beam may be prestressed at the bottom of the section for loadimg and at the top for handling, the pre-stressing being applied to the longitudinal reinforcing members or to additional pre-stressing elements.
