Naval and garrison carriages; mounting and dismounting; recoil apparatus.-Consists in means for varying the position of the cradle trunnions to enable naval guns to be mounted on railway mountings with the cradle trunnions near the breech of the gun. In one construction, the cradle is constructed with two pairs of trunnions. In a second construction, one pair of trunnions may be fixed to the cradle in either one of two positions. In a third arrangement, the cradle H, Fig. 7, of a naval gun is reversible, so that the usual trunnions J may be brought nearer to the gun breech, as shown in Fig. 10, for mounting in a railway mounting. The correct position for the trunnion axis is determined by a distance ring N placed on the gun barrel between the cradle and the breech ring M. The recoil cylinder K is reversed in the sleeve h<1>, and the buffer piston rod k<1> is connected to the lug m<1> by an extension rod k<2>.
