Packing, metallic; packing, non-metallic.-In the stuffing-box of a steam or hydraulic cylinder U packing-rings D of any suitable material are expanded by solid rings C of triangular section and grooved or perforated to permit access of the fluid pressure to the interior of the packing. A backing-ring F is placed between the gland and the packing. Two rings C placed base to base may be interposed between two rings D facing in opposite directions.
