24,396. Hosgood, J. Nov. 11. Stuffing - boxes.- A rod A is packed by a metal sleeve F, which is divided along a diagonal line and is held on the rod by fluid pressure. A flange J on the sleeve enters a groove in an outer split cylinder E fitting the stuffing-b o x. A spring N, which may be held in place by a shoulder on one of the cylinders, holds the cylinders in place when the fluid pressure is cut off. Tongues H are let into the cylinders E and sleeve F at their joints. One or more split or solid rings L are placed between the shells E, F and the gland. Screw holes are tapped into the shell E and rings L to receive a removing-instrument.
