Abstract

130,937. Thomson, E. A. April 11, 1919. Addition to 127,521. Packing, compound metallic and non-metallic. -Packing for piston-rods, valve spindles, or the like, and more especially applicable to the invention described in the parent Specification, is of the kind in which cupped rings are employed together with expansion rings of rubber, leather, or the like, supported by bearing-pieces, and the invention consists in making the expansion rings L with lateral rings L<1> which extend into contact with the surfaces packed. Fig. 2 shows the packing applied to a piston, the two expansion rings being arranged oppositely, and each provided with a cupped ring G supported by a bearing-piece 0. Sets of rings may be used.
