Abstract

161,893. Thomson, E. A. Aug. 4, 1920. Piston packing.-In packing of the type described in Specification 127,521, [Class 122 (v), Stuffing-boxes &c.], and 130,937, in which cupped packing rings are expanded by bevelled rings, rubber &c. rings being interposed between the bevelled rings and the cupped rings, the cupped rings G are formed of anti-friction metal, each ring G having a V groove at one side to receive the rubber &c. ring F and a flat surface at the other side bearing on a distance piece H. The rings F extend to the wall of the stuffing-box &c. and to the rod, and are expanded bv bevelled surfaces on the neck bush D and on the lantern ring M. The apices of the rings D, M are rounded. Channels G<1> are formed at the bottom of the grooves in the rings G, and the edges of the rings G may be cut away at G<2>.
