Packing, metallic; packing, adjusting or compressing.-Stuffing-box packing is compressed by a differential piston h, located partly in the stuffing- box and partly in the cover i, and packed by rings k, l. Fluid pressure is supplied to the annular shoulder of piston h from the valve chest or other source of pressure by a pipe m controlled by a cock o. Hollow bevelled packing-rings e, f are employed, each consisting of eight parts, and a spring-pressed ring g is interposed between the packing and the piston h.
