145,170. Murphy, J. J. April 1, 1919. Ballasting, careening, and trimming.-A ship is provided with longitudinal tubes G to create a current of water which is used for assisting propulsion. In the event of a bow collision, the forward ends of the tubes may be closed, and the water in the tubes may pass through a valve U into the tank C. The stern of the ship is thereby depressed and the bow raised so that repairing is facilitated.
