Abstract

Hulls. - In order to reduce the resistance to propulsion the water lines of the submerged portion of the stern immediately forward of the propeller are spaced apart laterally a distance sufficient to accommodate the stern post and extend forward substantially parallel to the fore and aft line for a material distance and then divers on outward curves. In the case of a single-screw vessel, a horizontal shelf 20<1> W.L. is formed about the propeller space and stern post and dies out aft. The water lines below the shelf and thereabouts extend forward at an angle to a fore and aft line not greater than 5‹.
