Abstract

Methylenedisulphocresotinic acid compounds are obtained by condensing a sulphocresotinic acid with formaldehyde. In an example, m-cresotinic acid is heated with sulphuric acid, the mixture is cooled, formaldehyde solution is added, and the solution stirred, and finally neutralized by alkali. The product may be obtained as a solution, paste, powder, &c., and can be employed as a tanning-agent. Specification 141,714 is referred to.
