Abstract
Liquid vinasses are agitated with a glycerine solvent and a strong mineral acid simultaneously, the solvent and acid being in such proportions that a precipitate separates naturally from the liquid portion of the mass. The latter comprises mainly glycerine, traces of other polyalcohols, water, the solvent and excess acid. The precipitate comprises salts of mineral acids, mainly potassium salts, and salts of organic nitrogen compounds, amines, amino-acids, betaines &c. suitable as an artificial manure. The vinasses, solvent and acid may be mixed together in any order. The precipitate and liquor may be separated by decantation, elutriation, filtration &c. and the precipitate washed with the solvent. The glycerine is recovered from the liquor, together with the washings if any, by distilling off the solvent, the liquid being neutralised, if desired, before the distillation. The solvent and acid specified comprise ethyl alcohol and sulphuric acid respectively.ALSO:Liquid vinasses are agitated with a glycerine solvent and a strong mineral acid simultaneously, the solvent and acid being in such proportions that a precipitate separates naturally from the liquid portion of the mass.
