1429764 Stackable furniture REMPLOY Ltd 18 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23750/72 Heading A4H [Also in Division F2] A stacking furniture frame comprises a substantially horizontal support and two legs extending therefrom, each leg being spaced from the support in a direction transverse to the leg by a stacking member that is elongate in a direction transverse to the leg, each stacking member, in plan, having a projection at one end detachably secured in a socket in the support and a recess at the other end detachably securing the leg therein, such that the frame can be dismantled and re-assembled as a non-stacking frame by omitting the stacking members and detachably securing the legs to the sockets of the supports. As shown, a stacking table 26 comprises a top supporting channel section sub-frame 14, 16 braced by corner plates 18 and four legs 20 connected to the subframe by respective stacking members 28 each provided with an elongate bore that receives the shank of a headed bolt 22a passed through plate 18 and threaded into a nut 24 on the hollow leg 20, or into the leg itself if it is solid. The leg 20 and stacking member 28 may receive a shroud (30). In the non-stacking table Fig. 1 (not shown), the legs 20 are secured to the sub-frame 14, 16 by shorter headed bolts (22). The stacking table 26 may include only two stacking members 28 associated with an adjacent pair of legs. The invention can also relate to chairs with two or more legs.
