Abstract

708,776. Furniture frames; seats. RUSSELL & CO. (FURNITURE), Ltd. July 31, 1952 [April 8, 1952], No. 8947/52. Class 52(2) An article of furniture such as a chair comprises front and back or the side portions constructed as permanent structures each having two or more legs or uprights, the structures being bridged by removable rails arranged to maintain a set angular relation between the structures and the rails. As shown the front permanent structure comprises the legs 1 connected by cross-rail 2 by means of tenon and socket joints 3, the front legs 1 having secured thereto gussets 18. The rear permanent structure similarly comprises legs 4 and cross-rail 5, the gussets 18 being omitted. The removable side rails 8 are connected by means of threaded studs 9 passing through co-operating apertures in the legs and removable rail and engaging a tapped plate 11 which is secured in the tenon of the tenon and socket joint 3. In addition removable inclined rails 24 engage recesses 25 in the rear and front legs. In place of the studs 9 connecting rods having their ends threaded in opposite hand may be screwed into tapped sockets in the front and rear rails.
