Abstract

140,380. Soc. Anon. A. B. G. D., (Assignees of Duca, L.). March 18, 1919, [Convention date]. Turning-gear. - In ratchet clutches for starting internal-combustion engines and lighting- dynamos operated thereby from electric motors, a hollow shaft 2 connected to the motor carries a sleeve 7 provided with recesses 9 with curved ends fitting balls 10 which co-operate with recesses 8 in a pinion 4, which drives the engine and is secured to the dynamo shaft. One end of each of the recesses is curved to receive the ball 10 during forward drive, the balls paesing to deep recesses 8<1> when the engine starts and the pinion 4 overruns the shaft 2. At high engine speed, centrifugal force keeps the halls within the recesses 8<1>. The motor and dynamo shafts need not be concentric.
