Abstract
136,339. Birkigt, M. Jan. 17, 1919. Valve.gear.-The crank-shaft b of an internalcombustion engine is connected by a resilient coupling with the armature spindle d of a dynamo for lighting, &c., and a bevol-wheal d<2> on the spindle d drives mechanism of the engine, such as the cam shaft and the water and oil pumps. The spindle d may be made in two parts coupled together to facilitate the erection of the dynamo, and the end of it opposite the flexible coupling may be arranged to permit the starting of the engine by hand. The flexible coupling consists of a bundle of spring blades f which is secured in a fork in the short shaft c and engages between projections inside the crank-shaft, or engages between projections on a collar b' which secures the shaft c in place. The end of the shaft c is connected to the spindle d by a slot in its end which engages a projection, or otherwise.
