Abstract

Turning-gear.-An engine-starter comprises, in one form, a shaft having a plain portion 15 and a threaded portion 16 on which is mounted a threaded pinion 12 which drives the engine member 13; the shaft is driven from an electric motor A through a flanged pinion 2 and a pinion 3 fixed on a sleeve 14, which is loose on the shaft 15 and is connected to it by a driving-spring 8. In a modification, the pinion 12 is carried by a threaded sleeve, through which extends a plain shaft carrying a motor-driven pinion such as 3; the threaded sleeve is connected to the shaft by a driving- spring such as 8 encircling an enlargement on the shaft, against which the threaded sleeve abuts.
